What is NVIDIA Agent Toolkit exactly?

NVIDIA Agent Toolkit is an open-source software stack launched at GTC 2026 for building, deploying, and optimizing autonomous AI agents at enterprise scale. The toolkit comprises three core components: the NeMo Agent Toolkit (an open-source library for profiling and optimizing agent systems), NVIDIA OpenShell (a secure-by-design runtime with sandboxed execution), and the Nemotron family of open models optimized for agentic reasoning.

The toolkit provides enterprise-grade instrumentation, observability, and continuous learning capabilities across any agentic framework. It lets developers bring existing agents from LangChain, CrewAI, Agno, or custom frameworks without code changes, then immediately gain visibility into latency bottlenecks, token costs, and orchestration overhead. Key built-in features include the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for tool integration, Agent-to-Agent (A2A) Protocol for distributed multi-agent systems, native LangSmith tracing integration, and evaluation harnesses for measuring agent quality.

With vector databases like Milvus, agents gain semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities. Milvus stores and retrieves embeddings for enterprise knowledge bases, enabling agents to reason over proprietary data with reduced hallucination and improved cost efficiency.
